Spain and Scotland 2016- Part 5 (Sandy's Studio)

My friend, Sandy...

                                                 ...has a truly covetable studio!

Because she is 'fluent' in many art forms and crafts...

...her workspace reflects her many interests and abilities...

...and because she regularly holds workshops...

...in everything from 'color on cloth' and jewelry making...

                                         ...to felting, weaving and book-making...

...her enormous 'stash' is a real bonus for her students!

We made sheets of pre-felt (for future projects)...

                                            ...some that were yarn-embellished...

...and some that were made with silk...

                                                         ...for nuno pre-felts.

We also experimented with complex resists.

Three of us started with an identical resist...

...but used different colors and fiber blends.

Here, a smiling Ann works on her fiddly resist...

...and a gleeful Sandy shows off her work in progress.

After the project passes the 'pinch test'...

...an opening is made for resist removal...

                                                    ...and the piece is fulled.

A final rolling for Sandy's piece...

...and all three of our objects are revealed.

(As 'what', exactly? We cannot say.) ;)

We did other felting, too, during my time in Spain...

...creating several purses and a pair of slippers...

...but alas, I did not remember to take any 'after' photos.

I also tried something that I haven't done since 5th grade...

                                                           ...papier-mâché!

                                               The required supplies were few...

...just pages pulled from an old phone book...

...and white glue thinned with water.

One layer of yellow tissue paper...

...was added to the exterior of the bowl for a wash of color...

...and dried lavender buds were added for texture.

It survived the trip home (it's sturdy!)...

...and is now a repository for small treasures from my travels.
