Rolled Hem Bowler Hat- Part 1 of 2

Brightly colored sari silk fiber...


                                              ...is snipped into short lengths...



                                         ...and applied to the surface of the resist.



                                         One layer of merino roving tops the silk...



                                 ...and then a second (in a perpendicular direction).



                                              The project is flipped to side two...



                                           ...and the entire process is repeated.



                                                      Mid-way through felting...



                                                          ...the hat is cut open...

                                                    ...and the resist is removed.



                                                 Next time: the finished hat!

The silk is going to create some gorgeous flecks of colour!

Rachel- What's funny, though, is that my daughter chose for the colored bits to be on the inside...only showing on the rim of the finished hat!
(She's the yin to my color-loving yang?!?) :)
